Product Review: Ariat Heritage Winter Work Gloves

Equestrians· Reviews

15 Feb

I bought these gloves back in 2015 when we purchased our house.  I knew I’d be spending a LOT more time outside in the cold once we were caring for Dede on our own property.  So at this point, I’ve had these for about 1 year and 3ish months.  I am VERY happy with these gloves.  I do everything in them – clean stalls, filling our water trough, ride, you name it, I am probably wearing these on a cold day while doing it.  The thing I like most about these gloves is that they keep my hands warm and allow me to still maintain full use of my hands.  So many gloves are either not warm enough, or they are so bulky that you can’t actually do anything once you have them on.  I will point out that they work well here for cold temperatures, but not utterly cold temps.  I do start to get freezing fingers if it’s in the single digits or below.  So I don’t think that these would be great for the dead of winter in Montana or Alaska.  They just aren’t warm enough (you’re probably going to need those bulky gloves that you can’t do anything in!)

The Pros:

  • Keep my hands warm
  • Allow me to have full use of my hands (i.e. I’m able to ride or use a pair of scissors to open a bale of hay with these on)
  • Durable (I can use tools and get them wet and they still haven’t torn or ripped anywhere)
  • They have a zipper spot for a hot pack on the back, although I’ve never used it.
  • They are waterproof (this is huge for me – I can get them wet while filling a water tank and my hands aren’t wet)
  • The long cuff bridges the gap between the glove and my jacket so I don’t have cold air leaking in

The Cons:

  • Not quite warm enough for single digit to sub-zero temperatures
  • Since they are waterproof, if your hands sweat in them, you’ll want to dry them out before wearing again or they will not be very warm

Overall, I am loving these gloves.  I’ve already gotten more than a winter’s use out of them (and many other gloves that I’ve purchased don’t even last a full winter), and they are still going strong.  Even if I had to spend $45 each winter for warm hands, it would be worth it!  I was also thinking of trying the Heritage Stable Work Gloves when I have to replace these because I’ve seen even better reviews for them over this glove.
