Meal Plan for the Week of March 31st

Blog

31 Mar

If you’ve read any of my other posts, you know that I have said how much money I save by meal planning. And I really do! We used to spend hundreds of dollars a week on food, and now it’s typically less than $100, for two people, for an entire week of meals.

New to meal planning? Check out my post that tells you the steps I follow to plan my meals. Are you too busy to find recipes and make the shopping list? That’s ok too – $5 Meal Plan is the way to go. It does the work for you.

Here are the recipes we are making this week:

  1. General Tso’s Chicken (I combine recipes to make the sauce)
  2. Meatball Beef Wellington
  3. Taco empanadas – We had pie crust in our freezer from Xmas, so time to use them!
  4. Quesadillas (no recipe – just use tortillas, cheese and your favorite fillings, we also grill them to avoid dishes and give a good char to the tortillas)

Take a look at my Pinterest Page to easily re-pin any of these recipes!

My grocery store shopping list:

  • Strawberries $2.50
  • Apples $6.02
  • Cilantro $0.50
  • Lemons (x6) $3.00
  • Limes (x8) $4.00
  • Grapefruit (x6) $4.62
  • Onions $0.76
  • Bananas $0.78
  • Pistachios $7.04
  • Ground Beef $11.63
  • Tomato Sauce (x5) $11.45
  • Butterfinger bar (Free)
  • Butter (x5lbs) $12.50
  • Frozen Corn $1.00
  • Puff Pastry $5.99
  • Tortillas (x2 packages) $4.58
  • Eggs $1.59
  • Milk (1gal) $2.19

Total $77.31

That’s just $38.65 per person for all our meals this week!

I do purchase my meat in bulk and freeze it when it is on sale, so you’ll notice that I don’t have to buy meat every week even though that’s on my meal plan. I save a lot of money this way. Simply buy meat that you typically eat when it is on sale. Bring it home and divide it into the size servings you typically buy and place them in freezer ziplock bags.

Meal planning and not eating out can save you so much money! You can also pick recipes that have inexpensive ingredients. Use $5 meal plan if you don’t have the time or patience to plan out meals like I do.

Don’t forget to pack your lunch for work. This will save you about $5-$15 a day on each meal you don’t purchase from a store or restaurant. If you plan your dinners correctly, you can eat the leftovers for lunch every day. Don’t forget that the total above is for two people for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day of the week. How much can you save by planning out your meals?
